What would it look like to be blind? It could be seeing everything as very blurry. Having little spots of space where you cannot see. Or having just one spot where you can’t see, or it only be only one small little spot where you can see. This is what world blindness month shows you.
What is World Blindness Month and who started it? World Blindness Month takes place in October. Its main goal is to spread awareness about visual impairments, their causes, and the prevention of blindness. World Blindness Month was started in 2009 by the Little Rock Foundation to educate the world about visual impairments, eye health, and research and treatments for visual impairments to prevent them from happening.
During World Blindness Month many things are done to show the struggles and experiences of blind people. Imagine being blindfolded for a day and having to do everything you usually do without the ability to see. But there are also things you can do to help like fundraising for research and healthcare about blindness.
Some important dates during World Blindness Month are October 10 through 16 which is known as National Braille Week, October 13 world sight day, and finally October 15 for White Cane Safety Day.
