This year, our Girl’s Golf Team went to the State Tournament, a feat very few of our sports teams have accomplished in the past years. To say this is a monumental occasion would be an understatement. Here is a breakdown of what happened over this 2024 State Golf Tournament.
Coaches Elise Tanquist and Nikki Hillman have the pleasure of bringing six students to State Golf. This was only possible due to the entire team’s dedication to the sport throughout the season. The team had to miss various school days to attend the tournaments and were constantly fighting for their place in the state championship. The week before the State tournament, Hillman spoke to me, mentioning, “Most of the girls had scheduled appointments and stuff for the week, but then we qualified, so they had to cancel.” The team did not expect to qualify, and it was out of pure luck and skill that they were able to get into the tournament.
State was difficult, Tanquist said that there were 50-mile winds, bloody noses, tears, and some rough places throughout the experience, but in the end, she was glad she was able to have the experience and give the students the ability to see the state tournament and how it works. They gained valuable experience that will get them back there again.
Congratulations to our girls’ golf team for making it to state, and we wish you luck next year!
