Everyone’s favorite music reviewer is back and here to remind you: you are not special just because you listen to some underground artist! That being said, in this installment of Hawks on Aux, I will be going over some underrated and under-appreciated music artists that people from all over the school have brought up to me.
First, let’s go over some of my recommendations. One artist I don’t see very often in America specifically is CRO. Although he has 5 million monthly Spotify streams, I rarely see him being spoken about. CRO is a rapper from Germany, and he makes a great variation of pop and rap music. One of my favorite songs by him is Einmal um die Welt, a single from 2012. If German rap music is not your style, don’t worry, students from around the school have their own opinions on who is underrated as well!
Amour Mach brought some indie pop vibes to the table with Rocco. Rocco is a 20-year-old singer songwriter with only 1 million monthly listeners. Another indie artist someone recommended was Daniel Caesar. Although, if you ask me, he is more mainstream than Amour’s recommendation. Another more mainstream artist that was brought up was Lady Gaga. But the band teacher was able to explain himself when asked why. Mr. Pelletier explained that “She is classically trained in piano and opera singing. Her talent is much higher than how she presents herself in music. As well, you never hear anything about her personal life, she is great at how she does music.” The final recommendation I got was Will Wood. Will Wood has been making music for over 7 years, and only recently did he reach 1 million monthly listeners. You may know him from the song I, Me, Myself, but Flint Dignan said that his favorite song was Becoming the Last nName by Will Wood.
What a wonderful group of under-appreciated artists. Although, all of them did have over 1 million monthly Spotify listeners, so I guess they aren’t as “underground” as I would’ve liked. Maybe next time I will talk about more “underground” artists. Well, that is the end of this installment of Hawks on Aux, we hope to see you next time!
