On January 3, at 5:45pm, Student Council will hold a fundraising campaign—Hoops for Hope—at Horace High School to help in the effort to cure Alzheimer’ Disease. During the basketball game doubleheader, they will be conducting a bake sale with all sorts of sweet treats, as well as a special purple concession with limited edition merchandise. Although the festive holiday may be far over by January, the season of giving is yearlong. You may donate any type of baked good to sell at the game. So, join in the effort to help make a change, may it be through purchasing from them or donating baked goods for the bake sale by January 2-3 at the office. There will be special additions to the starting line ups to pay tribute to all those affected by the disease.
The fundraiser is close to the hearts of student councils across the state. Hoops for Hope is in honor of Debbie Anderson, one of Student Council North Dakota’s executive directors who passed away in 2022 from Alzheimer’s. As the leader of NDSAC for 43 years and her love for others and dancing, her impact on the lives of family, friends, and student leaders across the state will last for decades.
All proceeds go to the Alzheimer’s Association to fund research and treatments for patients. Student Council knocks on the hearts of its students and community—goal is a total of $500 for donations. A little goes a long way, any amount donated and purchased contributes to the effort. For one night, join them in paying tribute to those lost along the way and in support of the battle to cure Alzheimer’s.
