Congratulations to our fine arts student of the month for August, Melissa Tarpeh! Melissa is a senior at Horace High School and is an important asset to our hawk community. Not only does she hype us up at games and pep rallies as cheer captain, but she also inspires her teammates in her activities to soar to their highest potential and brings out the best in people. Melissa participates in Speech and was a team captain last year. Melissa has been an asset to our team for many reasons not limited to her wonderful personality and amazing success in her events. Last summer, Melissa competed at the National Speech and Debate Tournament where she placed top 60 in Dramatic Interpretation and placed 10th in the nation in Prose Reading.
Melissa loves the community of speech and how she is able to make so many more friends in our school and even from other schools. She also shares that Speech has helped her face her fears and become more confident when speaking and expressing herself.
Her advice for others is to not be afraid to try new things and not be afraid to embarrass yourself because you learn so much more when you express yourself fully. Another congratulations to Melissa for being fine arts student of the month, it was well deserved!
