FCCLA, which stands for “Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America” focuses on leadership and supporting families. Students who join FCCLA gain skills through competing and creating a star event project including speech and creating a business.
In FCCLA, expect to feel just like a family and miss some days of school if you are in star events. If you make is to nationals, you will need to pay a $45 fee to compete. FCCLA is an all-year club, but nationals take place during the summer and can be in various different states.
Meetings in Horace High School are flexible in time and can last anywhere from 10 min to over an hour depending on what you are doing at the meeting. Meetings will be held at Horace High School, unless you are competing at state or nationals.
State is in Bismarck for star events. A star event is a project of some sort, they can be baking business of sharing a problem within the community.
If you are debating to join FCCLA remember that is not time-consuming considering what you will gain from it. This includes gaining skills in baking, cooking, speaking, business, and overall leadership. While interviewing Emmalyn Gaawyk, she said “Through my 4 years, I have gained memories that will last a lifetime.”
