As of September 25, the Horace Congress team has officially had their first tournament, gathering in the Ramada with other schools from around the state. I had the pleasure to participate in the event and will be giving a rundown of everything that had happened over this Monday.
5 out of the 7 houses in Congress had presiding officers from Horace High and Heritage Middle School! Maggie Dick, Keagan Kratcha, Isabel Flanagan, and middle schooler Lucy Scherbenske! Another student who got PO is part of your Homecoming Court, Griffin Terras.
Every student from both the middle and the high school was able to give at least one speech. Of these students, 10 of them were able to place within the top 8!
Starting in the Senate, Nadir Mohamed ranked 5th place. In House 1, Jordan Graves reached 6th place, soon overrun by Veda Voegele, who got 2nd. In House 2, Nora Aeilts placed 4th, and Hannah Stevermer placed 2nd. House 3, Jayla Ridout placed 3rd, and Charlotte Lovejoy placed 5th. House 4 we only had one person from Horace place, that being Maron Kpadeh in 6th place. In House 5 and 6, Kylie Stevermer placed 6th, and Claire Hoyt placed 7th!
Their next tournament is October 9, for West Congress in Mandan! Members are expectantly preparing more speeches for the event, hoping to claim their spots in the top 8 once again. Good luck Congress team!
