Basketball is starting soon at Horace, and this year fans are looking forward to a great season lead by the new coach, Kyle Cummings. Because of the lack of senior athletes last year, the final record of the season was a shocking 3-10. Our Hawks were not yet experienced with varsity level sports, but that has changed. With Horace looking for a new coach to guide our team to success, Kyle Cummings stepped forward. The reason for our not so good win/loss ratio was our defense and pass/decision skills. I had noticed we lack on the defensive side with weak footwork and lack of effort. Teams like Davies and West Fargo High exploited that weakness by double teaming our players, causing them to constantly turnover the ball. Multiple sources say that Coach Cummings has been training the team very hard over the summer, so this season is sure to be better. The things I hope I see is their defensive versatility. That means players like Moustopha “Moose” Diomande and freshman, Aiden Green are going to have step up. Cummings will have to unite the team not to play as a team, but a top team trying to win. To play to make it to the EDC tournament and hopefully state championship. Make sure to try out on the 20 – 23 of November. Tryouts in the main gym of Horace High. Times for boys’ basketball tryouts will be 6:00- 8:00P.M. You will need to be at least passing 7 classes to tryout. You will also need a water bottle and basketball shoes. Also, you must pay $60 to participate and your physical done. Hawks let’s have a great basketball season and hopefully a state championship. LET’S GO HAWKS!!!
