CHEER TEAM TRYOUTS!!!

Emyly Lara-Torres, Student Writer

Horace High is holding tryouts for our first cheer team! Coach Chelsea Hermanson will be coaching the new team and leading tryouts. Tryouts will be held on Tuesday, September 27th, in the school gymnasium from 4:30 to 7:00. Tryouts will involve learning cheers, sideline motions, jumps, and other basics. Athletes should show up wearing athletic attire such as a tee-shirt and workout shorts, hair back, and no jewelry. Results of the tryouts will be sent out the following day (Wednesday, September 28th) with the first practice being the following week on Monday (October 3rd). Usual practices are to be on Mondays and Thursdays from 4:30 to 6:30 in the common area of the school. To be eligible for the team, students must be enrolled at Horace High for the 2022-2023 school year, be passing at least five of their courses, and receive a sport physical by the start of the season.

Cheerleaders should exhibit school spirit, maintain good grades and be able to pep up a crowd. Cheerleaders will be involved with pep rallies and will be excused from class to assist in planning and setting up fundraisers (class work will still have to be made up). The school will provide athletes with uniforms, but athletes will have to pay for their other equipment such as shoes, poms, practice wear, white ankle socks, and an activity fee. Cheerleaders will be cheering at football and basketball home games, and other West-Fargo games. Athletes will be responsible for communicating with Coach Chelsea about possible absences 1-2 weeks in advance of games and practices so changes can be made accordingly. For more information contact Coach Chelsea and luck to all the students who try out for cheerleading and go Hawks!
