Congratulations to the girls’ swim team! It was Horace’s second year as a swim team. This year, state swimming was held at the Hulbert Aquatic Center on November 11 and 12. Eighteen teams from the West and East regions of North Dakota came together and competed. Horace High School placed 17th out of all teams.

Our swim team also had some amazing individual performances. Nine girls qualified for the state competition this year. Horace placed in 5 events, three individual and two relays. Jocelyn Wettlaufer was Horace’s highest individual placer. She placed in two events, but the 100 backstroke was her highest. Another swimmer that placed this year was Madelyn Novak. The team of Horace was also successful in the 200 medley and the 400 freestyle relays. In an interview, I was lucky to ask the head coach, Andrea Smith, a few questions about the team.

When asked about what she thought the team’s best accomplishment was this year, she answered that, “I feel that feel that our biggest accomplishment this year was moving up 5 places at EDC and having girls qualify for second day at state.” EDC stands for Eastern Dakota Conference, where the Eastern region teams compete before the state competition.

I went on to ask what the most shocking thing was for her to see at state this year. She highlighted how much she appreciates Horace’s continuous support towards their own team and the others that competed. She goes on to compliment the girls’ dedication to the sport and their team. I wrapped up the interview by asking if she had some new accomplishments for next year yet.

The head coach emphasizes the goals to grow their team and continue improving. “Some of our goals for next year are to continue to grow our team. With not losing anyone to graduation, I am excited to see our girls return and continue to improve on their swims and dives!”

Again, congratulations to the swim team and we cannot wait for your future achievement!
