PSAT: What To Know

Attention Sophomores and Juniors! HHS is offering the PSAT on Wednesday, October 25th, 2023. However, many students aren’t sure what the PSAT is. The Preliminary SAT, also known as the PSAT/NMSQT® (National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test), is a practice version of the SAT exam. The PSAT is not required, but recommended amongst students that are taking challenging coursework, planning to attend a 4-year university, strive to improve their academic skills, and are achieving A’s and B’s in their challenging courses.

In your junior year, if you earn a high enough score, you could qualify to receive a National Merit Scholarship. Juniors can benefit from the test in numerous ways. The results allow for students compare their skills with others planning to attend college and give students to receive personalized feedback on how to specifically improve areas of academics. It will give pupils practice for other standardized tests and free access to a website called BigFutures.

Students at HHS can register NOW through this Friday, September 15th. The cost of the test is $20.00. Sign-up sheets are accessible in the office, and pay is available through cash or check. The testing takes place in the school, lasting approximately 3 hours. On the day of the test, bring #2 pencils, an approved calculator, and your student ID. Contact your counselor or the office for any further questions. Good luck and best test scores to you!
