Student Council is a very popular program among Horace High School students. One that grants people with the ability to have many leadership opportunities throughout the school.
Veda Voegele is a junior at Horace High School, and she is the 2023-2024 president of student council. Student council is advised by Mrs. Settelmeyer and Miss. Johnson. Additionally, student Reese Richards is vice president, Amelia Lovejoy is secretary, Maggie Dick is treasurer and Elise Flanagan is social media manager. These are all roles that students here can take on by being elected at the end of the school year and serving that role in the following one.
Veda Voegele has led this program to the 1st pep rally in 2022, leading to many more to come. They participated in Fill the Dome in 2021. They have also increased school spirit with many spirit weeks, including one that helped to decrease the stigma of mental health in our school.
The students involved in this program are helping our school in such a positive way. “They can develop leadership skills and learn how to serve our school and community through the things that we do.” There are many benefits to having new students get involved and join student council. “They can get a sense for the culture of our school, and the pride with spirit weeks and pep rallies.” There are many things to look forward to that student council will be leading including, homecoming, a community service food drive, and hoping to eliminate student lunch debt.
